What is Falooda?
Falooda is a cold dessert drink more or less like a milkshake. But, unlike the milkshake, the layers of Falooda are visible. This makes it visually appealing and unique. It originates in the Persian (Iranian) dish Faloodeh which is still popular in Iran. It is now a popular drink in Asian and Middle Eastern countries. These include India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Singapore, and Malaysia.
How to Make Rose Falooda?
There are many different variations of Falooda across the world. Among them, Rose Falooda is the most popular one. Rose Falooda is made by beautifully layering rose syrup (or Falooda syrup), cooked vermicelli (noodles), soaked sweet basil seeds, jelly (jello), and milk in a tall glass. It is typically served with ice cream, dried fruits, and nuts.

About Mango Falooda Recipe
- The recipe can be halved or made into a big batch easily.
- You can make it either fresh or frozen mangoes.
- Authentic Falooda is usually made with rose syrup. It adds a lovely floral aroma and a pink color to the drink. It is also the sweetener that you use in this recipe.
- I used homemade rose syrup. You can also use store-bought rose syrup. Other red-colored syrups like Rooh Afza, strawberry, or raspberry can be used instead of Rose syrup.
- Sweet basil seeds cool the body … so Falooda is a delicious drink and very cooling for the summer. If you do not have sweet basil seeds, substitute chia seeds.
- I like to add rose syrup jelly but you can make it with another type of jelly or without jelly.
- Mango ice cream is not essential, try it with any of your choice.
- You can make a vegan version using almond milk, vegan jelly, and ice cream.
